About 

Dr. Jinguan Yang specializes in psychiatry, integrative medicine, and following family tradition, is a fifth-generation teacher and practitioner of Chinese medicine, specializing in acupuncture. He is an expert on classic forms of Chinese medicine, and uniquely incorporates acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, neuro-emotional technique, nutritional and dietary consultation, psychotherapy and medication management for the care of patients with a variety of emotional and physical illnesses, including chronic pain and stress and anxiety.

Dr. Yang is the Founder and Medical Director of the Yang Institute of Integrative Medicine and the Tao Clinic of Acupuncture, and practices in Malton, NJ; Bryn Mawr, PA; and New York, NY. He is a faculty member at the University of Arizona’s Center for Integrative Medicine. Dr. Yang also served as the director of the Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture program at the Jefferson Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine and assistant professor of psychiatry and human behavior at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Dr. Yang received his training in neurology and psychiatry at the Fourth Military Medical University in Xian, China, and the WHO Collaborative Mental Health Center in Shanghai. He completed a research fellowship in clinical psychopharmacology at Oxford University, residency training in psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, and a Bravewell Fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona.

Dr. Yang is the author of two books. He wrote, “Facing East: Ancient Health and Beauty Secrets for the Modern Age” in collaboration with noted designer and fashion icon Norma Kamali. Dr. Yang also wrote, “Clinical Acupuncture and Ancient Chinese Medicine,” a textbook resource for modern healthcare professionals seeking effective and efficient knowledge about acupuncture and ancient Chinese medicine, published by Oxford University Press, with co-author Dr. Daniel Monti. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in his fields of expertise and is frequently a speaker at national and international conferences and academic forums.

Dr. Yang is the president and founder of the American Institute for Clinical Acupuncture which is dedicated to educate and train physicians and other healthcare professionals on clinical acupuncture and ancient Chinese medicine. He is also a founding board member of the nonprofit International Network of Integrative Mental Health, which is dedicated to improving public access to integrative medicine treatments.

In 2017, Dr. Yang was appointed by the mayor of Philadelphia to The Opioid Task Force, a group that has been tasked with developing a comprehensive and coordinated plan to reduce opioid abuse, dependence and overdose in Philadelphia. Through his, and others, efforts, the FDA recently advised doctors to consider acupuncture as an alternative to opioids for pain management.

In his spare time, Dr. Yang is an advocate and volunteer for Shen Yun Performing Arts, the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, and a voluntary associate professor for Northern College in New York. Dr. Yang enjoys reading, swimming, and meditation.
